High Resolution 2 Axis Acu-Rite DRO & Scales System

EEC Ltd recently installed a 2 Axis Acu-Rite Dro system to a Jones-Shipman 540 surface grinder. The work was for a local high-precision customer, manufacturing to high resolution. The required Resolution was 0.001mm, and this was achieved using a couple of SENC 150 0.001mm scales coupled with a Acu-Rite DRO 203 display.

EEC Ltd supplied and fitted the high resolutions scales and DRO setup, implementing use of our own custom-made brackets – specially designed for each individual machine, manufactured by another local company that we have worked with for over 36 years.

SENC 150 linear encoder

The SENC 150 from ACU-RITE is the ideal scale for all applications. The compact and robust design, and the numerous possibilities for mounting, make it ideal for retrofitting. The slight dimensions and high accuracies of this ball-bearing guided encoder, which uses the reflected light method, are ideal prerequisites that can be used in metrology applications.

  • Robust design
  • Resolutions from 0.5 µm to 5 µm
  • Output signals: TTL
  • Measuring lengths from 75 mm/2″ to 3075 mm/120″
  • Distance-coded reference marks

Versatile digital readout for up to three axes

The ACU-RITE DRO 203 digital readout is especially well-suited for use on milling, drilling, boring, and lathes machines with up to three axes.

Design
The DRO 203 digital readout is designed as a sturdy upright unit with splash-proof full-travel keypad for use in a workshop. It is equipped with a 7” TFT colour screen for position values, dialog, input displays, graphic functions, and for a graphic positioning aid.

Functions
The DRO 203 digital readout is distinguished by its Klartext dialog guidance. The distance-to-go display facilitates positioning tasks. You approach the next position quickly and reliably by simply traversing until the display reads zero. The functions for the respective application are easy to activate via parameter input. Special functions are available for producing hole patterns (linear patterns and circular patterns).

You can easily switch between radius and diameter display when the position display is configured for turning. The digital readout also offers support for lathes with a separate top slide: the sum display feature allows you to display the saddle and top slides either together or separately. To set presets, simply touch the workpiece and freeze the tool position. Then retract and measure the workpiece with the tool out of the way.

Data Interfaces
A USB port enables the writing and reading out of data and files.
