Helicopter Gearbox Component Re-Manufacturing Improvements, With EEC.

EEC Ltd offer services to machining companies whom require world-class output and assistance with their constant strive to improve accuracy and quality. Aerospace machining is usually managed by an AS9100 revision D management system, achievable and maintained with regular certification requirements. AS9100 includes commitments to quality and accuracy, with a constant improvement path. This constant path of improvement correlates directly to ongoing standards of safety in the air.

As an example, a recent project was completed with a 3-axis HEIDENHAIN DRO installation to a SIP Hydroptic 6 jig borer. This work was carried out for a world-renowned Helicopter component manufacturing company for use in their gearbox remanufacturing workshop.

A HEIDENHAIN DRO (digital readout) is the best choice for use on a SIP Hydroptic 6 jig borer due to the accuracy available – and the repeatability achievable with a HEIDENHAIN system. A HEIDENHAIN ND 7013 digital readout, and LS 683/LS 383 scales were used in this particular installation. An LS 683 was used on the X axis due to space restrictions and 2 x LS 383 scales were used on the Y and Z axis where space was a limiting factor.

Custom manufactured brackets and backing spars – designed by EEC Ltd, were utilised in the installation. Our custom brackets and fixtures are manufactured by a local engineering company which EEC have been using for 39+ years for the manufacturing process.
